Sean+Bre | Luther Burbank Park Engagement

They met at the Space Needle. It may sound romantic, but it was more like having to watch the first couple episodes of Friends before everyone got to see them finally decide to date. Bre couldn’t stop thinking about Sean after she gave him the cold shoulder at the company party they both attended. So she decided to give him a chance a couple of weeks after the party. 4 years later they are planning their wedding and talking about babies! Bre decided to stick close to home with their engagement pictures and picked a park right next to her work on Mercer Island. Luther Burbank Park was actually pretty quiet at 10 in the morning. The sun was shining and it was almost the perfect temperature. We learned about their love for the Seahawks, helping orphaned kittens, and each other. We are so looking forward to your Cave B wedding next summer!

How Long Does it Take to Get Pictures Back From My Wedding?

How Long Does it Take to Get Pictures Back From My Wedding? The short answer: if you book with us, 3 weeks or less. With others, it could be less, the same, 2 months, or more. Now for the long answer, which would be good for you to read too!

Before you read below, understand that this is my personal opinion and I want you all to know this is how we choose to run our business. We have no idea how long our fellow colleagues take to get images back to their clients and it is not my intent to knock how they work.

Just because it’s wedding photography does not automatically equal 1 or 2 months (or longer!) to wait for your pictures. If you aren’t okay with waiting weeks on end, then you will be able to find a quality, high-end photographer who can give you your images in under a month.  We pride ourselves on getting it right in camera, so our edit time takes as little as possible after the wedding. We also schedule our jobs to ensure the best customer service to our existing clients instead of being focused on who’s around the corner.

In the photography world, a very general consensus is that it takes about 20-25 hours of work to prepare a wedding: including album design, slideshows, blog posts, etc. Say I almost double that time to 45 hours. That is 3 hours a day on weekdays for 3 weeks. If a photographer can’t spend that time in the month right after your wedding (that they have known about usually at least 6 months, if not a year, in advance), then they aren’t scheduling themselves properly. If I ask a bride and groom to spend a premium on Ben and I, the least I can do is plan ahead to set aside 3 hours a day for that wedding to finish their work in a timely manner. If that requires us saying no to another job, then so be it!  Of course, it doesn’t take us 45 hours to prepare a wedding. But we do have small children who require more attention than older children! So I give myself 3 weeks instead of the 1 it usually would take me. And that is how we do business. We are a boutique studio, which means we are low-volume (we stick to around only 15 weddings per year) and give the best customer service we can give them. That does equal in paying more for us than others in our industry. But with us you know that we will answer the phone when you call, respond to emails within hours, be in open communication with your other wedding vendors, get photos to you in a timely manner, and not neglect our children.:)

So, I said all this to say, you do have a choice on when you get your photos. If you don’t like the timeline of what a photographer states, then talk with them and ask about getting the images sooner. You need do this before you sign a contract with them at the initial booking. Or find a photographer who will.

And because no blog post should go without a photo, here’s one from a wedding last week!

Diana Thornton - Truly a pleasure working with you two! I love the pictures, yiu guys did an outstanding job! Thank you (:2012/09/27 – 21:19

Brooke+Chris | Sanders Estate Wedding

Chris and Brooke. So much fun! What a gorgeous, fun wedding! They chose to get married at the picturesque wedding venue: Sander’s Estate. It is a photographers paradise with a pond, big green fields, and a beautiful home. We were thankful the rain held off for their outdoor ceremony. Brooke chose soft romantic pink and browns to accent her wedding day. We loved the special touches she added to the day; one of them being coffee from the family coffee farm in Hawaii that guests got to take home. Chris is a big Star Wars fan, so she found a Star Wars garter! We love this wedding so much, it’s going to require a couple blog posts! Here is the first part of their last-day-of-summer wedding! Come back Friday for the second part of their wedding.

A big thanks to Diana of Just in Time Event Coordinating for making the day run smoothly. And to Paisley Petals for the gorgeous flowers!

An Ode to our Photography Assistant, Tera!

We hired our first photo intern this summer. It was a big step for us to ask someone to join our team. We were so blessed to have found Tera! To be honest, we were assuming a bunch of 18 year kids with nothing better to do with their summer would apply for it, but we were pleasantly surprised to get quite a few educators who have a passion for photography, but have the summer off, apply. It was a great fit to find someone responsible, understand professionalism, and interested in photography. Tera was amazing this summer! She held reflectors, light candles, ran to the car for stuff I forgot, helped with veils, brought us drinks, held big heavy light stands, was our lighting tester, held back branches and so much more.

THANK YOU Tera for all your hard work. We wish we could hire you to work year round with us!

Friends, if you are looking for a senior portrait photographer in Wenatchee, check out her work here.

Is Your Wedding Photographer Insured?

Being a photographer is 10% taking pictures, 90% running a business. #1 thing on that list is to be insured….
To couples who are in the process of hiring a photographer: ask if they have insurance! It is not so much to ensure that they will be prepared/have the ability to replace an important piece of equipment if it breaks, but that the photographer cares enough about their business to have it protected. A lot of new photographers forgo this expense because they simply don’t want to spend the money on it. A couple years ago we were talking with a photo friend, telling them about the importance of it. They weren’t sure about spending the money on insurance, only to have their house flood the next week and their $2000 lens drown in the flood. Insuring not only the equipment, but all of their business is a sign of professionalism and seriousness about their job. There is also indemnity insurance. All photographers should have this. Heaven forbid something happen to your pictures, but what if something does? We don’t want to loose your images just as much as you! Photographers can’t control getting into a fiery crash on the way home from your wedding. They could have backed up the cards 4 different ways, but if they get in an accident, get water damage, the list goes on… what will you do? Indemnity insurance would pay for you to recreate your wedding day exactly so it could be rephotographed. No kidding!
To Photographers: GET INSURANCE! It’s more important than any other tool that you may own. Obviously I feel strongly about this. There is no reason a business owner of any kind should be without business insurance. If they can’t afford it, they shouldn’t be in business. Our insurance agent happens to be my sister-in-law, Nancy Collingsworth. We are so blessed to be in such great hands, knowing how passionate she is about working for State Farm and insurance. She’s been working for State Farm a long time and is certified to do anything that requires insurance, loans, credit cards, ect. She has helped educate us about everything insurance related.  If you want to trust someone who is honest, runs her business with integrity and knows insurance: get insured through her. This may sound like a shameless plug for Nancy, but it is the truth. You all know that integrity and great customer service is the number one and two things we judge a business by. If she wasn’t those thing, we wouldn’t use her. Because our business is very important to us.  To contact Nancy Collingsworth, State Farm agent, go to www.nancycollingsworth.com or call 425-643-6505. Her office is in Bellevue, but we live in Eastern Washington and have loved working with her. In our unbiased opinion:)
